Top 100 Escape Rooms in the World – December 2019

As we close out 2019 and enter 2020, we are providing our Top 100 Escape Rooms in the World list for December using all individual review ratings from Google, Yelp, and TripAdvisor. As usual, several additional businesses became eligible for ranking as they now have greater than 150 reviews, but only one appears in this month’s Top 100 list.

The new entrant is Take The Exit (Hull, UK) at #5. Others entering the Top 100 (either for the first time or re-entering) include Locked Adventures (San Marcos, California) at #86, The Dark Machine Escape Room (Almeria, Spain) at #89, The Escaporium (Halifax, UK) at #95, and Mass Escape (New Bedford, Maine) at #96.

Several made significant jumps including Mystic Escape Room (Littleton,  Colorado) up 16 to #27, Tadam Escape (Carquefou, France) up 27 to #49, Crack It Bolton (Bolton, UK) up 20 to #62, and Key to Escape (Statesville, North Carolina) up 22 positions to #74.  Awesome!

One issue we had this month was with the TripAdvisor ratings.  They seem to have introduced a bug in the desktop browser page as it showed incorrect breakout values for many businesses.  For those businesses in the top 350 positions where our software noted a discrepancy, we manually checked and updated the data from the mobile version which showed the correct breakout values.

There were many other businesses showing discrepancies below the top 350 that we did not update, as the manual effort and time involved was not feasible and would further delay posting these lists.  Since these discrepancies affect the accuracy of the statistics of the overall dataset, we are not providing statistics this month.

Please check your traveler ratings in TripAdvisor and let TripAdvisor know if they are in error (sum of traveler ratings doesn’t match total at the top of the page).  While we have communicated the error to them, the more that communicate their concern should help resolve the issue in a timely manner. 

Note that a business dropping in the ranking is not an indication that they are performing worse.  You can compare to previous months lists to see if the average ranking has changed.  Movement downward is often due to new entrants that are increasing the competition.
